Stolon: cloud native postgresql high-availability

Stolon is an Open Source project, developed in GO by Simone Gotti, Open Source Software Engineer and Architect, and SORINT.lab.

It is an innovative and cloud native PostgreSQL High Availability solution. It can be installed both standard and IaaS, (Aws, Google Cloud, …) environments and also in CaaS and PaaS environments like Kubernetes.

Why Stolon?

We created our own solution because the available ones weren’t simultaneously satisfying our primary requirements:

  • Focus on data consistency
  • Runs everywhere
  • Native Cloud to be released in any environment
  • Deploy in seconds

Stolon has a shared nothing architecture that takes advantage of PostgreSQL streaming replication (asynchronous or synchronous) and is resilient to any kind of partitioning avoiding the loss of transactions.
